Apology/ Correction
In this blog, the most important task of my class Media and Society, I did a several gross violation which I´m conscious of and which I really regret. I did not prepared enough time for this assignment which was my biggest fault because under the press from time I copied a number of sentences without paraphrasing and properly citing. We all have whole class at UNYP where we can learn how to avoid plagiarism and in this class we also study that everything which is not our own idea has to be cited. Therefore I could not find an accurate excuse for what I did because I have studied the rules of plagiarism for whole semester and it was just my negligence and mindedness which caused that I plagiarized. I´m conscious of violence in my blog and I´m very sorry for it. It was not my intention to plagiarize. Even thought I tried to write good blog that could hold readers interest, I was unmindful and not sufficiently prepared and therefore I committed a several faults in this task.

Why plagiarism is wrong

As everybody at UNYP knows, what I did is against academic policy and student´s honour code of this school. How to avoid plagiarism is not taught at this school just by the reason of the lack of classes. There are several good reasons why plagiarism is so serious problem and how its violation can harm people and cause serious problems to us, especially in our future. Firstly, it is gouge to use someone´s words as our own with the view to make our task easier. We are graded for own our words, ideas and thoughts, and not for another´s ones. If someone is used to cheat at school, sooner or later he will regret. Even if he would not be caught or fired from school, he would feel negatively his approach to tasks in his future job. Universities are trying to educate their students to be responsible for the decisions they make and to be independent and intelligently thinking individuals. To presume on dishonesty as cheating usually turns against cheaters. The way how they behave at universities and their approach to work and tasks will appear in their future as negative part of their character. Secondly, to copy someone´s other ideas and thoughts is almost something as theft. To use not your own words is very unfair concerning the original authors of the articles. We are morally obliged to respect authors´ articles in which they explain their intellectual ability. There are many sites on internet or books in libraries where we can find comprehensive information about citing sources and avoiding plagiarism and we should use them if we are not absolutely sure of it because to plagiarize is unethical and it harms the original authors as well as eventually us.

Conclusion
In conclusion, what I did is dishonesty but as I said it was not my intention to cheat or plagiarize. Now I´m conscious of what I did and I´m prepared to face the consequences of my act because I know that it is against all academic rules taught at UNYP. I just want to say that I´m trying to do my best in all class at UNYP and I´m really very sorry for the violence that I did in this task.

Introduction

The main idea of this blog is to show how we view the morality and ethics of journalists and their work. I am not going to talk about reliable newspapers or magazines but about those that change and model information to be the most shocking and attractive for readers. Journalists of the yellow press are able to pursue celebrities thousands miles to get sensationalist images that are then send all around the world. They very often and with pleasure use term like freedom of speech when they publish information about celebrities but they absolutely forget that people have also freedom of privacy. There are some questions related to this theme we should ask. Do the paparazzi have a right to pursue famous people? Why society needs more and more controversial information about people it is interest in? Do you think we can blame just journalists for this immorality? We all are part of this acting that destroys the moral values of our society. We are attacked by paparazzi reports from all sides and although we know they are untrustworthy we still like them. We should realize at which cost they were acquired and how these gossip´s information can hurt those who play the main role in the undependable articles.

Diana and her Life with Paparazzi

The most well-known paparazzi and celebrity story is the tragedy of princess of Wales Diana and her spouse Doddy Al Faied. Lady Diana had never liked photographers and journalists, especially those who hunt her at every turn. They were waiting for occasions when Diana would meet her lovers or be in swimming suits at the luxury yacht. Her personal life was under the supervision of paparazzi and they were even a part of her and Doddy´s death. On August 30, 1997, in the fateful day, Channel 2000´s informed in its news that “pursued by hungry-driven paparazzi on all sides, Diana’s Mercedes Benz sedan crashed shortly after midnight Paris time in a tunnel along the Seine River at the Pont de l’Alma bridge” (Channel 2000´s). There are many speculations that describe princess´s death. However, most of them illustrate paparazzi behavior after accident very negatively. There was an evidence that paparazzi were promptly after the crash at Diana´s car, their films from the cameras they had that night proved their guilty. The News.com in its article of Diana´s death informs that “witnesses at the inquest into their deaths described how photographers were “on the car” to get shots but made no attempt to assist those inside” (News). Every tabloid wants to have the first photographs of the scandals of the rich and famous. The saddest is that the bigger the scandal, the more money the yellow press makes. BBC News published Mr Al Fayed´s response to his son death, Doddy´s Al Faied father said in a statement: “This lovely couple was murdered, with the paparazzi being used as a cover for the murder, and sooner or later I will succeed in exposing the full facts, and the people who committed such a horrendous crime”(BBC). Although a lot of people like Doddy´s father blame just paparazzi for their deaths, there were many other factors that led to this tragedy. Seeing that alcohol was found in driver blood, Henri Paul was finally found blameful for Diana and Doddy´s deaths. Nevertheless, paparazzi played one of the main roles in this tragedy and were the ones exclusively prosecuted by several of nations. It is obvious that Diana’s loss enlarged very much the antipathy and annoyance against the paparazzi.

Karel Svoboda

It is a year ago when we could read and listen everywhere that Karel Svoboda, who was a Czech notable composer of popular music, was found dead from gunshot wounds in the garden of his villa at Jevany near to Prague. It is believed that he committed suicide. He was not yet 24 hours death when somebody wanted to sell controversial photos to the most well-known yellow press in the Czech Republic– to Blesk. The pictures showed how he was laying and in his hand he held a gun. Next day Blesk published the photo of dead Karel Svoboda; this picture covered the whole front page. I think that it was probably the most productive day for Blesk regarding the number of sold print. People are eager to sensations, especially when they are connected with famous people. However, where is ethics of this magazine? Although it was not Blesk journalist who took this photo, people from this journal promptly bought these pictures from the policeman who, be on service, took a number of photos of the dead man. They did not mind his family, friends, and they published it next day in the way that everybody had to notice what had happened and bought this press. It is ridiculous that in the same time Blesk states within its magazines how “it is horrible that somebody wanted to sell these photos and even thought there was offered disgusting business Blesk finally bought pictures. The only reason why magazine bought them was to prohibit seller in further propagation. Blesk made a decision to do not use those photos, only on the front page.” It is really nice how redactors and journalists of yellow press such as Blesk have a gift to change even the most immoral and disgusting information for their own benefit.

Who bears the responsibility?

It would be impossible to exist in the civilization without some rules of ethics and morality because we all are a part of society and lacking this needed factors we would live there worse than animals. Some rules are given by states and to infringe them is illegal. On the other side there are lawful situations where we are aware of their absurdity. Unfortunately in many fields of our culture we can find an absolute absence of moral values and principles. Especially in some certain magazines, that very often and with pleasure called themselves reliable sources, we can observe how they try to attract readers with shocking, controversial, disgusting, and mostly false and misleading information. Their journalists pursue celebrities to get desirable photography everywhere.

Celebrities choose their careers themselves. Everybody knows that stars´ lives are connected with all the glory, journalists, shows, events and paparazzi therefore many of us look at famous persons´ complains with contempt. However, we do not comprehend that these people can just love acting or singing for audiences but on the other hand they need some while for themselves with their families, friends, and partners without disturbing journalists hunting them with clicking cameras at every turn. Paparazzi are often very annoying and obtrusive; therefore some celebrities use their own ways and tricks to defend from paparazzi. Robert Valdes in his article How Paparazzi Work wrote that “Supermodel Heidi Klum took a similar approach to keep paparazzi away from her daughter. Celebrity children are a favorite of paparazzi — “That’s why I released the photos of her, instead of having photographers hunt for them,” Klum told USA Today” (Valdez).

We should realize it is the public that form the market for these pictures and videos of intimacy stolen from people’s private lives. As long as a market exists for photos, and the prices are extremely high for, there will be people who take these photos without scruples how they must hunt their victims (Colton). We – readers are countable for that dishonesty of yellow press from the most part because they provide what we buy. It is really sad that professional photographers, who are trying to create beauty and art, get an absurd amount in comparison to paparazzi who took shocking and scandal photos of some celebrity.

It is creditable that at least some of nations, mainly in Europe, limit paparazzi activities by passing laws that describe in detail where, when, and under what conditions they can take a photos. “In Germany and France, photographers need the permission of the people in their photograph.” (Paparazzi). However, in USA where paparazzi annoyance is the most wide spread, these laws missing. I just mention the You Tube video, where Britney Spears wanted to buy a cappuccino in one coffee shop. I was surprised that she did not blind from all (a several tens) obtrusive clicking cameras that were given just a few centimeters from her face. Normal people went mad; she just looked apathetically which is obvious when we realize that photographers pursue her day by day, minute by minute.

It is true that paparazzi are an integral part of celebrities’ business. Often famous people are grateful to every article in which they appear. Nevertheless, paparazzi frequently violate limits of human propriety, morality and many times they show us how they have absolutely no scruples, especially in the cases of deaths. Therefore I´m for strict laws that would specify events and situations in which they are allowed to take photographs. Only this act could prevent them from dishonest and offending behavior.
